Carla is a director having completed her BA LLB degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, and thereafter fulfilled her articles at Glyn Marais Inc where she rotated in the Labour and Employment, Commercial Property and General Commercial departments. Carla then joined Cowan Harper Attorneys as an Associate, assisting in labour, litigation and commercial departments. Carla joined the Consilium team in 2013, where she has grown and developed her interest in the employment, commercial, technology and media law fields. Carla assists clients with development and implementation of internal employment policies and procedures.

Carla acts as a key consultant in managing employment and performance issues, including the drafting of warnings and charge sheets, as well as acting as an independent chair in disciplinary enquiries, and assisting with consultations relating to potential retrenchments. Carla also offers ad hoc advice on a wide array of general labour queries.

Carla has managed referrals at the CCMA and bargaining councils and assisted with and run employment dispute trials and reviews at the Labour Court together with counsel for notable and large corporate clients such as Comair, Bidvest, Kentz Construction, and ADvTECH Group.

Carla has recently developed a keen interest in data protection and cyber law, and advises clients on POPI and GDPR requirements, as well as developing compliance documentation and policies and conducting staff training.

Some significant clients that Carla has assisted include MSC Cruises, Club Med, British American Tobacco (for which in particular, policies applicable to numerous African countries were drafted), WIOCC Telecoms, and Cerebra Communications, part of the WPP Group.

Carla also assists clients within the advertising space in negotiating important service level, influencer and brand management agreements on behalf of them with major blue-chip companies; clients include DNA Brand Management, Promise Group and Flume Communications.
